Is Ontryst free?

Updated 2026-08-17 · Applies to: iPhoneAndroidWeb

Yes — every feature is free right now, on both the app and the web. What that covers, and what changes later.

Is Ontryst free?

Yes. Right now every feature on Ontryst is free — on the mobile app and on the web. There is nothing to buy, nothing that renews, and no feature sitting behind a paywall.

On the mobile app

The app is completely free. There are no in-app purchases at all: no subscriptions, no credits, no boosts. Everything the app can do, it does for every member.

If you see anything in the app that looks like it's asking for payment, it isn't ours — tell support.

On the web

The web version is free today as well. It is also where paid plans will appear first, whenever we do start charging. Nothing is being charged now.

What "free" covers

All of it: messaging, opening messages, discovery and filters, audio and video calls, posts, stories, Zones — including creating and hosting your own — and going live. No limits are being enforced while Ontryst is free.

What happens later

We'll introduce paid plans eventually, starting on the web. When we do, we'll say so clearly rather than quietly switching something off, and free accounts will keep working. The pricing page shows the shape of what's planned; nothing on it is being billed today.

If you already have a subscription

A small number of members subscribed on the web before this. If that's you:

  • Settings → Subscription shows what you have and when it renews.
  • App Store or Google Play purchases are managed and cancelled in your store account — Ontryst can't cancel or refund a store subscription on your behalf.
  • Card or mobile money is managed from Settings.

Cancelling stops the next renewal and leaves the period you've paid for intact. It doesn't delete your account — see Pausing or deleting your account.

Refunds

Ontryst being free now doesn't change anything about a payment you already made — you can still ask about it, and we'll still deal with it.

Refunds depend on how you paid and where you live. Store purchases are refunded by Apple or Google under their own policies, and Ontryst can't issue one on their behalf. EU/EEA and UK customers have a statutory withdrawal right on a new subscription. The specifics are in the Terms of Service.

If a payment went wrong rather than you changing your mind, see A payment didn't go through.
