The app is slow, blank, or crashing
A short order of checks for freezes, blank screens and crashes — and what to send support if none of it works.
The app is slow, blank, or crashing
Work through these in order. They're arranged cheapest-first, and the early ones fix most cases without costing you anything.
Close and reopen it
Fully close the app — not just switch away from it — then open it again. A screen that got stuck mid-load stays stuck until the app restarts.
Check your connection
Ontryst needs a live connection for almost every screen. A weak signal typically shows as a blank area or a spinner that never resolves, rather than an error message.
Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data. If other apps are also struggling, it's the connection, not Ontryst.
Update the app
Open the App Store or Google Play and check for an update. Bugs that affect many people are usually fixed within days, and an old version can keep hitting something that no longer exists.
Restart the phone
Worth doing once. It clears memory pressure and stale network state, which is a common cause of an app that has become slow rather than broken.
Clear the cache — Android only
Settings → Apps → Ontryst → Storage → Clear cache.
Do not tap "Clear storage" or "Clear data": that signs you out and wipes local state, and it is not the same button.
Free up space
A phone that's nearly full will misbehave in ways that look random — failed image loads, crashes when opening the camera, uploads that never finish. Check your available storage before assuming it's the app.
Only reinstall as a last resort
Reinstalling signs you out and means requesting a new sign-in code. It's worth doing only after everything above, and only if the app fails at launch. It will not fix an empty list, a missing message, or a notification problem — see I can't see my messages and I'm not getting notifications for those.
If this didn't help, tell support
Contact us from Settings → Talk to us, or email support@ontryst.com. What actually helps:
- iPhone, Android, or web, plus the phone model if you know it
- the app version (Settings, at the bottom)
- which screen it happens on, and whether it's every time or occasional
- what you see — blank, frozen, an error message, or the app closing outright
- a screenshot or screen recording if you can
"It crashes" is very hard to act on. "It closes every time I open a profile from the map, since Tuesday" usually points straight at the cause.
