I'm not getting notifications
Why alerts stop arriving, how to check permission, and the setting that controls each kind.
I'm not getting notifications
There are two separate layers, and both have to be on. Your phone decides whether Ontryst may notify you at all; Ontryst's settings decide which kinds you receive. If the first one is off, nothing in the second matters.
Check permission on your phone
This is the most common cause by a wide margin — especially if you tapped "Don't allow" when the app first asked, since it never asks twice.
iPhone — Settings → Notifications → Ontryst → Allow Notifications.
Android — Settings → Apps → Ontryst → Notifications.
If permission was never granted, your device was never registered to receive anything. Turning it on now registers it, and new alerts start arriving from that point.
Check your Ontryst settings
In the app, go to Settings → Notifications. Each category — messages, matches, likes, account — can be turned on or off independently, per channel. If you turned a category off some time ago, that is exactly what you'll see: silence in that one area while everything else works.
Battery savers block delivery
Aggressive power saving is the second most common cause, and it's easy to miss because nothing appears broken.
Android — Settings → Apps → Ontryst → Battery → allow background activity. Some manufacturers add a second layer of their own on top of Android's; look for anything named "app launch", "protected apps" or "auto-start".
iPhone — Settings → General → Background App Refresh.
Low Power Mode on either platform delays notifications until you next open the phone.
After reinstalling or switching phones
A fresh install registers a new device. Sign in and open the app once — that's what registers it. Until you do, notifications have nowhere to go.
On the web
Browser notifications are separate from your phone's, and are granted per browser. If you dismissed the browser prompt, re-enable it from the padlock icon in the address bar.
If this didn't help, tell support
Contact us from Settings → Talk to us, or email support@ontryst.com, and include:
- iPhone, Android, or web — and the OS version if you know it
- the app version (Settings, at the bottom)
- which notifications are missing — all of them, or only one kind
- whether they ever worked, and roughly when they stopped
"All of them, never worked" and "only messages, stopped last week" are different problems with different causes, so that one detail saves a round trip.
